世界中の研究機関や企業では、毎年数億匹もの動物が実験に使用されています。

日本でも、多くの動物が医薬品や化学物質の安全性試験、病気の研究、化粧品の開発などの目的で犠牲になっています。
動物たちは狭く不衛生なケージに閉じ込められ、自由を奪われたまま生涯を実験に捧げさせられ、孤独と絶望の中で生涯を終えます。

痛みや恐怖を感じる能力を持つにもかかわらず、毒性試験や外科的処置を繰り返し受け、多くは最後に殺処分されます。

中には麻酔なしで外科手術や薬物投与を受けるケースもあり、激しい苦痛の中で命を落とす動物も少なくありません。

Every year, hundreds of millions of animals are used in experiments by research institutions and corporations around the world.
In Japan as well, countless animals are sacrificed for purposes such as drug development, chemical safety testing, disease research, and cosmetics production.
These animals are often confined in cramped, unsanitary cages, stripped of their freedom, and subjected to a life of experimentation, ending their lives in isolation and despair.
Despite their ability to feel pain and fear, they are repeatedly subjected to toxicity tests and surgical procedures—and many are ultimately euthanized.
In some cases, animals undergo surgery or are administered substances without anesthesia, leading to immense suffering and, in many cases, death.

動物実験には、主に以下の動物が使用されています。​

 

• マウス・ラット：最も多く使われる動物で、薬理試験や遺伝子研究に利用されます。

• ウサギ：化粧品や化学物質の皮膚刺激性試験、眼刺激試験に使われます。

• モルモット・ハムスター：アレルギー反応の試験などに用いられます。

• 犬・猫：特定の薬剤の影響を調べるために実験対象となります。

• サル（霊長類）：神経科学や感染症研究で使われることが多く、高い知能を持つにもかかわらず過酷な実験にさらされています。

• ブタ：皮膚の構造が人間に近いため、火傷や創傷治癒の研究に使用されます。

• 鳥類（ニワトリ・ハトなど）：ワクチン開発や毒性試験に利用されます。

• Fish (e.g., zebra fish): Widely used in genetic and developmental research.

　薬や治療法の効果を調べるために、動物に意図的に病気を発症させて実験します。

　― 病気の進行を観察するための苦しみ

　病気の原因や進行を調べる目的で、動物の体内変化を観察します。

・外科手術

　― 麻酔なしの手術、耐えがたい苦痛

　新しい手術法や臓器機能の研究で、麻酔なしの外科処置が行われることもあります。

・放射線照射

　― 体内を破壊する不可視の苦しみ

　がん研究や被曝影響の調査のため、動物に放射線を照射し臓器の損傷を評価します。

・器官摘出

　― 生きたまま奪われる命の一部

　臓器研究や移植実験のために、生きている動物から臓器が摘出されることがあります。

　多くの場合、摘出後は殺処分され、命を終えることになります。

 

このような実験は動物に大きな苦痛を与えるだけでなく、人間への適用性にも限界があることが指摘されています。

・Toxicity Testing and Poison Administration
　– Pushed to the brink with poison
　Animals are administered chemicals or drugs in doses close to lethal levels to observe side 　effects and the process leading to death.

・Safety Testing
　– Pain directly inflicted on skin and eyes
　Substances are applied to animals’ skin or eyes, or forcibly administered orally or by injection, 　to test for harm to the human body.

​

・Efficacy Testing
　– Infected on purpose to test medicine
　Animals are intentionally made ill so that the effects of drugs or treatments can be observed.

 

・Pathological Research
　– Studying disease progression through suffering
　Animal bodies are observed to understand the cause and development of disease.

​

・Surgical Procedures
　– Intolerable pain from surgery without anesthesia
　Some procedures are performed without anesthesia for purposes such as surgical technique 　development or organ function study.

 

・Radiation Exposure
　– Invisible suffering that destroys from within
　Animals are exposed to radiation to assess damage to organs, particularly in cancer or 　radiation exposure studies.

・Organ Extraction
　– A piece of life taken while still alive
　In organ transplant or pathological studies, animals have their organs removed while still alive.
　In many cases, they are euthanized afterward, ending their lives.

​

These practices not only cause immense suffering but also have limitations in their applicability to humans.

動物実験の問題点

倫理的な問題
動物たちは生きたまま実験され、苦しみながら命を落とします。動物にも痛みや恐怖を感じる能力があり、実験は彼らの尊厳を侵害する行為です。

本来、動物たちは自由に生きる権利を持っているはずですが、動物実験ではその権利が奪われています。

科学的信頼性の欠如
動物と人間の生理的違いにより、動物実験の結果がそのまま人間に適用できるとは限りません。

動物で安全だった物質が人間には有害であることや、逆に動物で有害とされた物質が人間には無害であることも多く報告されています。

例えば、抗炎症薬「Vioxx（バイオックス）」は動物実験で安全とされていましたが、人間では心臓発作や脳卒中のリスクを高め、数万人の被害が報告されました。

代替法の存在
近年では、人体由来の細胞培養、コンピューターシミュレーションなどが開発されており、動物実験に頼らなくても研究を進めることが可能です。

これらの代替法は、より人間に適したデータを提供できるため、科学的にも優れた手法として注目されています。

 

それにもかかわらず、依然として多くの動物が不要な実験により犠牲になっているのが現状です。

Problems with Animal Testing

Ethical Issues
Animals are experimented on while still alive and die in pain.

Despite their ability to feel, they are denied their dignity.
All animals deserve the right to live freely, yet animal testing robs them of this right.

​

Scientific Unreliability
Due to physiological differences between humans and animals, test results often cannot be directly applied to people.
There are many cases where substances safe for animals proved harmful to humans—or vice versa.
For instance, the anti-inflammatory drug Vioxx was deemed safe in animal trials but caused heart attacks and strokes in humans, resulting in tens of thousands of reported deaths.

Availability of Alternatives
Today, there are more ethical and scientifically advanced alternatives such as cultured human cells and computer simulations.
These methods provide more human-relevant data and eliminate the need for animal suffering.

Despite this, many animals continue to be used unnecessarily in testing.
